Notice of Health Regulation Changes
Due to new USDA regulations, Pro Pet Transports will now require that all animals, with the exception of rodents and reptiles, now have an official, multi-copy, state issued certificate for interstate travel. These certificates must be acquired from a licensed veterinarian no more than 10 days prior to the scheduled transport date. We appreciate your assistance in this matter.
Health Certificates Explained
While nearly all animals transported with our company are required to have a health certificate, you should understand the following:
A health certificate only states that an animal is free from infectious diseases and current on all vaccinations. It does not indicate that the animal itself is in good health. If you are purchasing an animal from someone that you do not know personally, we strongly recommend that you request proof of a clear physical examination from a qualified veterinarian. This additional measure will insure that you are buying a healthy animal and avoid any difficulties that might arise during or after delivery.
General: Please have your dog ready for transport. Upon arrival, the driver will review your papers and give your dog a health inspection. We cannot transport dogs that have a tendency to be aggressive or vicious. If your dog becomes aggressive during the transport, it may become necessary to leave him/her in the carrier for part or even the entire transport (for the saftey and comfort of everyone on board).
It is highly recommended that alternate arrangements be in place in case the person responsible for sending or receiving the animal is unable to do so. Notify Pro-Pet-Transports as soon as you know of a change of plans. Our cancellation policy can be viewed on our Schedules page.
If you have an adult dog, please make sure you provide a properly fitted collar for exercise breaks. We do carry leashes and halters on board. All adult dogs are given an individual leash walk about every four to six hours. Puppies are hand carried to our exercise pen where they can play for a while. Only puppies from the same household are in the exercise pen at a time and it is sterilized between uses. The puppies in our care are never put on the ground.
We carry many types of toys for your dogs entertainment. We encourage sending familiar toys, blankets or other favorite objects to allow the dog to feel at home during transport. Older dogs in particular find having an article of clothing with the scent of the person they are most closely identified with on it very reassuring.
*Please Note* We are not equipped to carry extras, such as bowls, leashes, extra paperwork, unnecessary medicines or any other items, for your dog(s). Please make other arrangements to have any items that are not needed for the transport shipped to your dog's destination. Our attendants are instructed to refuse any items that are not necessary for the transport.
Special Needs: We use large vehicles to transport that allows plenty of elbow room, proper ventilation, and makes it easy for dogs with variety of physical needs to enter and exit the vehicle. Make sure to let us know if your dog has any special needs, such as medication that needs to be administered or other physical disabilites. Our attendants can accomodate the dogs needs.
Carriers: If you have requested a pet carrier, it will be delivered when the driver arrives. It is very important to order the proper size carrier for your dog. To get the correct size, measure your dog from the floor to the top of the shoulder, add about two inches for headroom. Height is only one aspect of comfort for your dog, some dogs are long and you need to make sure the length of the carrier is adequate.
Important Note: We are phasing out the Pet Taxi size carrier for dogs and cats out of concern for the comfort and safety of the animals. The smallest carrier we will be shipping dogs and cats in will be the equivalent of a 100 Vari-Kennel or 21Lx16Wx15H.
Bedding: Bedding is required for the transportation of dogs. We strongly recommend that this bedding is Scotch Guarded for the safety and comfort of your pet and that the bedding fit snugly in the bottom of the carrier. If you do not have bedding for your dog, we do have beds for sale which are custom made to fit the different carriers. If you are providing your own pet carrier, please make sure your dog is able to sit, stand, lay down and turn around easily. It is a good idea to put your dog in your carrier prior to transport to make sure they haven't outgrown it if it has been some time since it's last use. We do not allow wire carriers for dogs. *Important note* Waterproof padding is required for all puppies under the age of six months. If you do not have this type of padding for your puppy, we do have pads for sale which are custom made to fit the different carriers. These waterproof pads/beds are yours to keep after the transport, insuring your puppy a comfortable, waterproof bed in his or her new home.
Documents: Professional Pet Transports Inc. is bound by UDSA regulations. All dogs must have a current health certificate from a qualified veterinarian as well as their Bordetella (kennel cough) shot or we will not be able to transport them. Please have your dog's health certificate, immunization records and emergency care authorization form ready and available for review. If medication is required, please notify our drivers/attendants.
Food: We provide a variety of high quality dog food for all ages, if your dog requires a special diet or you would prefer to supply your own, please have it ready for the journey in a zip lock bag. We use our own stainless steel food and water bowls. We furnish dog treats and snacks. We also provide bottled drinking water at no additional charge to you.
We are careful not to overbook, allowing our attendants adequate access to the carriers as the vehicles are moving. All of our transportation vehicles have refrigeration for any special needs, and has two or three driver/attendants on board at all times allowing an attendant to interact with the animals while another is driving.
